How I Got Started On Computers

I have only been on a computer about seven years. Before that time I always did my work on my desk with pen and paper. I didn’t even type. I got the secretary to do that for me.

Listen, working off your desk is a real pain. You have to rewrite your mistakes or if you want any changes made. There is no way to reproduce what you did or use part of it in another piece of work without making a hard copy, cutting it with scissors and taping it with tape. It’s a hard way to work.

I knew that the computer was the way of the future and if I didn’t want to get any further behind I was going to have to give in and learn how to use one. The first thing I did was download a typing program so that I could learn how to use the keyboard. Every morning for about 30 or 45 minutes I would practice typing until I got to where I felt comfortable with it. Being able to type my work has saved me much time. It is so helpful to be able to store my work on the computer, retrieve it and use it however I need with just a click of the button.

The next thing I learned was how to use PowerPoint. I use PowerPoint for teaching and preaching. It seems that most really appreciate the visual as it helps them to follow along.

As time went on I continued to try and pick up knowledge and skills on the computer. My Bible programs have saved me much time and I rarely use my books anymore. Email is a great way to communicate, especially with those out of the United States. The internet has been a valuable source of information. My latest project is learning how to make blogs like the one you are reading. It has been a lot of fun and I really enjoy using the computer.

At least for me, right now, where I am at, computers are a definite asset for better living.
